<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy storage device of large capacity density. <P>SOLUTION: A viologen derivative salt or a bipyridyl derivative salt dissolved into an electrolyte at a concentration of 0.1 M or more is used as a negative electrode active material, at least one active material selected from a transition metal complex, an aniline group low molecular compound, a neutral radical compound or π conjugated polymer is used as a positive electrode, and further an active carbon, fibrous carbon and a porous carbon, etc. are used as an electrode.
