<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for amplifying and detecting a nucleic acid sequence of HIV-1. <P>SOLUTION: An oligonucleotide primer set, a probe, a combination of the primer set and the probe, and a reagent for specifically and sensitively amplifying and detecting HIV-1 variants including those from HIV-1 groups M, N, and O, as well as various subtypes within or derived from these groups are prepared to carry out amplification and detection of the HIV-1 target sequence in a test sample.
