<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that improves a white-tinged image and prevents the degradation of display quality. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device (100) includes a first electrode (122) having a surface (122a), a first substrate (120), a second substrate (140), and a liquid crystal layer (160). The distance between a first surface area (122a1) of the first electrode (122) and the second electrode (142) is shorter than the distance between a second surface area (122a2) of the first electrode (122) and the second electrode (142). The first substrate (120) also has an insulating layer (126) overlapping at least the second surface area (122a2) of the first electrode (122).
