PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently control emitted light quantity and correct shading in a multibeam scanning system using VCSEL. SOLUTION: The optical scanner scans a face to be scanned by multibeams by coupling a plurality of laser beams in a linear polarized state emitted from a surface light emitting laser light source 100 having a plurality of laser light sources with a first optical system 106 and deflecting the laser beams with a polygon mirror, and has: light quantity detection means 112 to 118, in which a parallel flat plate type 1/4 wavelength plate 104 is arranged between the surface light emitting laser light source 100 and the first optical system 106, detect the plurality of coupled laser luminous fluxes which are turned into light quantity detection luminous fluxes by separating the laser luminous flux by light quantity; and a light quantity adjustment means 120 which individually adjusts the light emission intensities of the plurality of laser light sources on the basis of the detected result of the light quantity detection means, wherein the 1/4 wavelength plate 104 is arranged so that its optical axis is arranged around the optical axis of the first optical system 106 at±45 degrees with respect to the main scanning direction.
