<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus and the like for synthesizing peptoid oligomers using a solid phase synthesis technique, which avoids the waste associated with prior systems. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for synthesizing peptoid oligomers comprises: a process (a) for providing a solid phase having a protected amino group; a process (b) for deprotecting the amino group on the solid phase to provide a reactive amine; a process (c) for acylating the reactive amine by bringing the amine into contact with an acyl submonomer to provide an acylated amine containing a leaving group; a process (d) for replacing the leaving group derived from the acylated amine with an amine by bringing the acylated amine into contact with an amine reagent to provide an N-substituted monomer and a leaving group by-product; and a process (e) for recycling unused amine reagent together with the leaving group by-product to a containment means, thereby providing a recycled amine reagent suitable for use in a subsequent replacement reaction.
