<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assist a driver in driving a vehicle by displaying a virtual image to make him/her recognize a vehicle width. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A virtual image display apparatus is provided with: a display means for displaying a first virtual image 31 and a second virtual image 32 in front of the vehicle near a left end and a right end, respectively, of the vehicle; a detection means for detecting a left turn or a right turn of the vehicle; and a changing means for changing a display position of at least one of the first virtual image and the second virtual image so that they are moved in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle when the detection means detects the left turn or the right turn. In this manner, when the left or right turn is made, the display position of the virtual image is changed so that the driver pays attention to a portion of the vehicle which is in danger of contact with another vehicle.
