PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element substrate having a plurality of recording element arrays in which recording elements are arranged at different densities, and to enable an effective transfer of data to each recording element by this recording substrate. SOLUTION: The element substrate is constructed such that the element substrate has the first recording element array in which relatively many recording elements are arranged, and the second recording element array which has the same length as the first recording element array and in which a relatively small number of the recording elements are arranged, the first and second recording element array being parallel, and such that the element substrate has one shift register to hold data driving the recording elements in the second recording element array and one shift register to hold data driving the recording elements in the first recording element array.
