The device has a drive unit (2) rotatable around a pedal axis (4), where the drive unit includes two pedals (6) that are mechanically and rigidly connected and offset to each other. A flywheel (12) is driven by the pedals. A brake unit (14) i.e. eddy-current brake unit, exerts adjustable braking force on the flywheel. A control device (16) is designed in such a manner that the braking force acting on the flywheel with rotation of the drive unit is changeable, so that different tread resistances are adjustable for both of the pedals.
