RECHARGEABLE BATTERY USAGE SYSTEMS AND ASSOCIATED METHODS

A system and method for controlling the use of at least one rechargeable battery is described. The system comprises a monitor operable with the rechargeable battery so as to monitor a variable associated with use of the battery that varies during discharge of the battery. The system also comprises a controller responsive to the monitor so as to initiate a cessation of discharging of the battery when a difference between a value of the variable at the commencement of a discharge cycle and a subsequent value of the variable during said discharge cycle is at least approximately equal to a predetermined differential. The controller may be adapted to cease discharging of the battery either automatically, or by a user where the the user is provided with an indication to cease discharging of the battery. A consequence of the system and method may be to aid in prolonging the battery's usable life.
