<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen fuel cell system capable of being efficiently used even in a portable apparatus in which a load is intermittently generated without disposing of generated hydrogen. <P>SOLUTION: In the hydrogen fuel cell system 1 including: a hydrogen generator 2 generating hydrogen by chemical reaction from a hydrogen generating source; a hydrogen tank 4 temporarily storing hydrogen generated by the hydrogen generator 2; and a hydrogen fuel cell 6 generating electric power with hydrogen stored in the hydrogen tank 4, a controller 7 controls operation of the whole hydrogen fuel cell system 1 based on power request information from a load 100 and hydrogen pressure information on the inside of the hydrogen tank 4, hydrogen generated in the hydrogen generator 2 is temporarily stored in the hydrogen tank 4, hydrogen is taken out of the hydrogen tank 4 in accordance with electric power requested from the load 100, power generation is conducted according to the request with the fuel cell 6.
