PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition giving an optical material having a low photoelastic birefringence, and excellent transparency, strength and heat resistance. SOLUTION: The transparent resin composition for optical materials satisfies the following (1) to (4). (1) The composition comprises (A) a thermoplastic resin having a negative photoelastic coefficient, (B) a thermoplastic resin having a positive photoelastic coefficient, and (C) a rubbery polymer containing an aromatic vinyl monomer and a conjugated diene monomer as essential constituent monomers. (2) The Abbe number of the thermoplastic resin (A) is larger than that of the thermoplastic resin (B). (3) The weight proportion of the (C) is 0.5 to 80 wt.% based on the total weight of the (A) to (C).
