<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus having superior brightness characteristics by achieving improvement in afterglow time in the image display apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The surface substrate 1 and the backside substrate 10 are arranged opposite to each other, and discharge gas containing Xe is sealed between the surface substrate 1 and the backside substrate 10. A fluorescent film 8 is arranged at the backside substrate 10 on a discharge gas side. The Xe concentration in the discharge gas is ≥10 mol%. The fluorescent film 8 uses a green light-emitting fluorescent film 8g in which Ca<SB>5-2x</SB>Na<SB>x</SB>(PO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>3</SB>F:Tb<SB>x</SB>phosphor and Zn<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Mn phosphor are mixed and contained.
