<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel oil composition for a diesel engine capable of retaining the state of a fuel as the liquid state even under ultra-high pressure as used in a high pressure injection device, retaining the suitable combustion state by maintaining the fuel spraying form, and avoiding trouble such as damage of a nozzle hole of an injector. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fuel oil composition for the diesel engine contains 5-80 vol.% of a fuel oil base material having an isoparaffin content of ≥25 vol.%, a 90 vol.% distillation temperature of 290-350°C, and a paraffin branch degree index of 0.3-0.75, and has a distillation property that a 10 vol.% distillation temperature is 180-225°C and a 90 vol.% distillation temperature is 315-350°C. In the composition, a sulfur content is ≤10 mass ppm, a saturated hydrocarbon is 70-98 vol.%, an aromatic hydrocarbon is 2-30 vol.%, a content of a bicyclic aromatic group is ≤1.5 vol.%, and a content of a polycyclic aromatic group having three or more rings is ≤0.5 vol.%, a content of naphthenes is ≤68 vol.%, a content of polycyclic naphthenes is ≤35 vol.%, and a content of isoparaffin is 5-90 vol.%.
