<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable communication terminal device capable of preventing excess or deficiency in a map image to be displayed even if the mode of the portable communication terminal device changes by displaying a map and the image of an electronic compass on the same screen to reduce the processing amount for rotating the map, preventing hindrance of processing imposed on the communication of the portable communication terminal device, and obtaining the map image suitable to the size of the display screen. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The portable communication terminal device includes a position measuring means for measuring the position of itself, and an azimuth measuring means for measuring the azimuth of itself. In the portable communication terminal device, the mode of the portable communication terminal device is detected, the data corresponding to the detected mode and the position measured by the position measuring means are transmitted, the map information of a predetermined azimuth corresponding to the transmitted position is received, an image of the electronic compass corresponding to the azimuth measured by the azimuth measuring means is generated, the map is displayed based on the received map information, and the image of the electronic compass is displayed on the same screen as that of the displayed map.
