<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting multiple paper advancement with many advantages which is easily installed, hardly affected by the electronic interference, and inexpensive, and to provide a method for detecting multiple paper advancement. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device has a main wheel, a drag wheel, a torque component, and a search module. The main wheel has a first surface with the rotational torque being given thereto, and the dray wheel has a second surface with the drag torque being given thereto by the torque component. The main wheel is abutted on the drag wheel to assemble a paper advancing roller set and to successively transmit papers. The friction coefficient and the drag torque between the first and second surfaces and the papers are set. Thus, when the single paper passes through or does not pass through the paper advancing roller set, the drag wheel is rotated following the main wheel. When a large number of papers simultaneously pass through the paper advancing roller set, the drag wheel is not rotated. After the rotational state of the drag wheel is searched by the search module, presence/absence of occurrence of multiple paper advancement can be determined. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
