An information processing apparatus, an information processing method, a recording medium, and a program that can run an application for playing an optical disc and an application that provides a unique function of the apparatus in cooperation with each other. A JVM converts JAVA(TM) bytecode into native code and executes the native code. An API library is a set of commands and functions that can be used when developing a navigation program and a set of protocols defining procedures. The navigation program is a program that reproduces data recorded on an optical disc and can control hardware of a reproducing apparatus only within the range of the API library. An application program provides a function unique to the reproducing apparatus. The navigation program and the application program execute a process in cooperation with each other using IXC.
