PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery which restrains short circuit even though a gasket may be broken and is excellent in safety. SOLUTION: The battery includes a battery case having a bottom, sidewalls, and an upper opening, a group of electrodes, an electrolyte, and a sealing plate for covering the upper opening of the battery case which houses the group of electrodes and the electrolyte. The group of electrodes includes cathodes, anodes, and separators each intervened between the cathode and the anode. The gasket is intervened between the opening of the battery case and the sealing plate, and a first high resistance layer exists between the opening of the battery case and the gasket.
