PURPOSE: A power control device and a power control method are provided to interrupt the power supply by sensing the burning smell of the electric device through a smell sensor. CONSTITUTION: An adapter(110) supplies the external power. A battery(120) is charged with the external power. A first smell sensor(130) is arranged in the adapter and the battery. If the smell value sensed by the first smell sensor is above a preset value, a power controller(140) interrupts the power supply. A speaker(150) transfers the sound information about the power interruption. A display unit(160) transmits the message information about the power interruption to a user. A second smell sensor is arranged in the position except the battery and the adapter. A controller(180) controls the operation of a notebook(100) by sensing the smell.
