SOLUTION: L-rhamnose diethylmercaptal is reacted with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of tungstic acid and phospho-oxo acid to obtain a dialkylsulfonylmethane derivative. The derivative is reacted with a hydrazine compound to produce the hydrazone derivative of formula (4) wherein, R3is H or OH; R4, R5are each H, an alkyl group or an aryl group. Ž
