The invention is concerned with the field of analysis of data resulting from gene profiling experiments, and provides a method for calculation of statistical characteristics e.g. standard deviation values for a set of value pairs (Xn|Yn), comprising the steps of a) grouping pairs and b) calculating the characteristics e.g. standard deviation for each group.
