PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely producing bio-ethanol at a low cost by utilizing waste biomass or un-utilized biomass. SOLUTION: The method for producing the bio-ethanol includes (A) a step of treating a cellulose-containing material with cellulase, and obtaining glucose, and (B) a step of reacting the glucose obtained in the step (A) with an ethanol fermentation yeast, and producing the ethanol, wherein (C) the cellulose-containing material is at least one kind selected from the group consisting of non-edible parts of plants, paper, cotton products, regenerated fibers, and wood; (D) the cellulase is derived from bacteria, filamentus fungus, or protist; and (E) the ethanol fermentation yeast is Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
