NEW MATERIAL:Arginine deiminase having the following physical and chemical properties. Action, catalyzes an enzymatic reaction to produce citrulline and ammonia from L-arginine and water; substrate specificity, positive to L-arginine; optimum pH, 7.0-7.5; stable pH, >=5.0; molecular weight 47,000+ or -5,000 (by SDS- PAGE); isoelectric point, 7.4+ or -0.5. USE:An antitumor agent. PREPARATION:The objective novel arginine deiminase can be produced e.g., by culturing a microbial strain belonging to Mycoplasma orale and capable of producing arginine deiminase [e.g., Mycoplasma orale (TGIF) (FERM BP-1970)] in a medium and collecting a component having tumor cell proliferation inhibiting activity from the cultured product. |
