PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dry toner having good charge stability, excellent in charge retentivity (not causing charge attenuation by leaving), having satisfactory charge stability and good image properties while using a small amount of a charge control agent, and excellent also in environmental safety, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The dry toner for electrostatic image development is obtained as follows; a nigrosine dye (A) is wet-milled to obtain a slurry (B) of the finely divided nigrosine dye having a volume average particle diameter of 0.2-2.0 μm, the slurry (B) and a resin (C) which is solid at room temperature are heated and kneaded, the solvent is removed, and the resulting resin coated nigrosine dye (D), a colorant and a binder resin and heated and kneaded.
