摘要 PURPOSE: A surface emitting laser element, surface emitting laser array, optical scanning device, and image forming apparatus are provided to enhance the stability of the output laser beam at the polarization direction. CONSTITUTION: The normal direction of the substrate(101) is sloped on the crystallographic orientation [1 0 0] and crystallographic orientation [1 1 1]. The resonator structure comprises the active layer(105). The first and second semiconductor distribution Bragg reflectors(103,107) makes sandwich the resonator structure. The first and the second semiconductor distribution Bragg reflector include the stricture structure. The current passage domain of the stricture structure is surrounded with the oxide layer. A plurality of semiconductor layers is laminated on substrate. The metal layer has the opening actuating in a plurality of semiconductor layers as the light emergence part. The laser beam having the cross-sectional shape of longitudinal is inputted through the oxidation stricture structure to the metal layer. The opening width of the light emergence part in the first direction is smaller than that in the second direction.
