PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new protein which contains a specific amino acid sequence, exhibits the activity of hydrolizing acid amide linkages between sphingosine and fatty acids in ceramides and is useful as a therapeutic drug or the like against diseases, e.g. cancer and the like, caused by abnormal cell multiplication, brain-nervous system diseases or the like. SOLUTION: This protein is a new protein which comprises the amino acid sequence represented by the formula or the amino acid sequence obtained by substituting, deleting, inserting, adding or inverting one or several numbers of amino acids on the amino acid sequence represented by the formula and exhibits the activity of hydrolizing acid amide linkages between sphingosine and fatty acids in ceramides and is useful in the investigation of sphingosine production systems and signal transmission systems functionalizing through the sphingosine production systems and as a therapeutic drug against diseases caused by abnormal cell multiplication capable of illustrating cancer as a typical instance, a therapeutic drug against brain-nervous system diseases, or the like. This protein is obtained by grinding rat renal cells, centrifuging the ground suspension to collect an supernatant and purifying the supernatant by anion-exchange chromatography, lectin affinity chromatography, gel filtration or the like. |
