PURPOSE: An organic electroluminescent display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce resistance of a cathode electrode by shorting a cathode electrode and an auxiliary electrode structurally. CONSTITUTION: A first protection layer(14') and a second protective layer(14'') are successively formed on a first substrate. The first and second protection layers have step parts with an undercut shape. An auxiliary electrode layer, an EL(Electro-Luminescence) common layer, a second electrode layer(33) are successively formed in a non-light emitting region including a first protection layer and the second protection layer. The auxiliary electrode layer and the second electrode layer are shorted in the step part by the first protection layer of an undercut shape or slope of the second protection layer. An etch rate of the material of the first protection layer is higher than the etch rate of the material of the second protection layer. The first protection layer is made of SiO2. The second protection layer is made of SiNx.
