The grinding wheel (11) is mounted on its drive shaft by a retainer (2). The grinding wheel is pressed against the latter by a pressure flange (9), which is acted on by hydraulic pistons (8) in the clamping flange (3). The latter has an internal thread (4) which engages a thread (5) on the boss of the retainer. The pressure flange has its outer region divided into segments by radial slots, which extend inwards to a circular groove (12). Each segment has a degree of flexibility and is acted on by a pair of hydraulic istons (8) so that the clamping pressure is evenly distributed over the surface of the grinding wheel.
