An insulating, foamed material made of expandable plastic particles, consists of particles that are welded together and have at least two different colors. The particles consist of polystyrol and are e.g. black and white. The thermal conductivity of the material is less than that of a homogeneously colored material, but the sound damping, strength and elasticity properties are better than those of a white material. At least 30 vol% of the material consists of foamed white particles, and the material has a closed cell structure. Joins to adjacent members of the same material are made invisible using a covering.
