The device has a floor mounting appliance with two gas tanks (14, 15) e.g. gas cylinders. A handheld device (1) is connected over a flexible pipeline e.g. pressure hose, with the appliance. A food container is closed in a gas-tight manner. The handheld device is provided for connecting the gas tanks with a valve unit of the food container. The valve unit exhibits an inlet valve and an outlet valve. The gas cylinders contain gas mixtures that are different from one another, where the gas cylinders are arranged at the appliance over a selector valve (17).
