PURPOSE: A method for preparing a cyclic olefin polymer is provided to prepare a cyclic olefin polymer using an inexpensive tungsten-based compound as a catalyst without the generation of gel. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing a cyclic olefin polymer comprises a step for preparing a cyclic olefin polymer by performing ring opening polymerization of a cyclic olefin compound in the presence of a polymerization catalyst system containing a tungsten compound and organic aluminum compound, a molecular weight control agent, and alcohols as additives.
