The master computer (10-12) keeps a directory of the client computers (1-3) in the network which is constructed from groups in a layered manner, comprising a main group and one or more sub-groups underneath. The last sub-group(s) contain(s) the individual client computers and the groups above also contain client computers so that the main group comprises all of the client computers. Separate playlists are provided for the main group and sub-groups underneath, which combine to determine the operation of the client computers. The client computers include displays such as monitor screens (4-9), beamers or projectors, and are controlled (in)directly by a master computer according to at least one predetermined playlist which determines what is to be shown on the screens. The playlists can be altered according to entries in a day and time calendar.
