The valve comprises a housing (1) having at least one entry E provided on the outer casing of the housing (1) for the flow medium and at least one exit A provided on the outer casing of the housing (1) for the flow medium. The housing (1) has a flow space (2) inside, in which a drive element (3) is centrally and rotatably supported, the rotational axis D thereof running perpendicular to the at least one entry E and perpendicular to the at least one exit A. Between the drive element (3) and the housing (1), at least one endless strip (4) is provided parallel to the rotational axis D of the drive element (3), the length L thereof extending over the at least one entry E and the at least one exit A. The drive element (3) is connected to a drive and can guide the at least one endless strip (4) in the flow space (2) along the housing (1) during operation. The invention further relates to the use of the valve as a throttle element for motor vehicles having diesel engines.
