The method involves injecting a reactive component into an exhaust tube (2) in upstream of a pollution control system (3) at an interval. The injection interval is determined based on operating conditions of an internal combustion engine (1) and the quantity of the reactive component to be injected, where the interval is a linear function of gas rate in the pollution control system or equivalent value. An independent claim is also included for a system for injecting a reactive component for an exhaust gas pollution control system of an internal combustion engine.
