<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus achieving prolongation of a life of a drive component of a brush type roller, reduction in motor cost and power consumption by decreasing torque of the motor, and improvement of allowance to banding caused by rotational vibration of the brush type roller, and to provide a process cartridge. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has: a photoreceptor 5 on which a latent image is formed; a cleaning device which removes toner remaining on the photoreceptor by a cleaning blade 15a; and an applying means 17 which applies lubricant onto an upstream side of the cleaning device in a rotating direction of the photoreceptor. The applying means 17 includes the brush type roller 17a. After the brush type roller 17a rubs on a lubricant forming body 17b to scrape the lubricant, it applies the lubricant onto the photoreceptor 5 to thereby supply the lubricant to the photoreceptor 5. The cross-sectional shape of the fiber of the brush type roller 17a is an irregular cross section, and the cross-sectional shape of the fiber of the brush type roller 17a has an intersection on the outside.
