PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect a detection signal generated irregularly. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, an image formation control means and an I/O identification control means are connected with each other by one data line. The detection signals from a plurality of detecting means are once identified as to from which of the detecting means the signals are input, and then sent to the control means by using the data line. The data line is opened for the detection signal irregularly generated for a period with a period necessary for preparation for carrying out next identification control (preparation period) subtracted from a period after the last identification control is carried out before the next identification control is carried out (control unexecuted period).
