<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soft magnetic material having low coercive force, and containing a layered double hydroxide containing iron ions; and an electromagnetic-wave shielding material containing the same. <P>SOLUTION: This soft magnetic material contains a layered double hydroxide containing Fe<SP>3+</SP>ions. The soft magnetic material can be preferably used for an electromagnetic-wave shielding material and an electromagnetic-wave shielding material having optical transparency by combination with an organic resin.
