PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow maintenance for a line type recording head, even when a recording medium exists in a position opposed to the head. SOLUTION: The present invention discloses a maintenance method for the line type recording head, allowing the maintenance for the recording head of an inkjet recorder mounted with the line type recording head injecting ink toward the recording medium supported by a platen. The recording head is evacuated from an upper face of the platen, by turning a carriage supporting the recording head to oppose a delivery face of the recording head to the platen at the time when recording an image, when a maintenance time for the recording head comes, and a prescribed space for the maintenance is formed thereby on the platen, to carry out the maintenance for the recording head.
