<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an atmospheric pressure learning value as a learning value of atmospheric pressure to a more appropriate value. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this method for setting the atmospheric pressure learning value, when a volumetric efficiency difference ΔKL as a difference between a first volumetric efficiency KL1 based on the amount of air detected Qam by a meter from an airflow meter and a second volumetric efficiency KL2 based on the atmospheric pressure leaning value Pa and a throttle opening TH is less than a threshold KLref (S140) with an EGR valve opened, or, when the volumetric efficiency difference ΔKL is less than the threshold KLref with the EGR valve fully closed although the volumetric efficiency difference ΔKL is larger than the threshold KLref with the EGR valve opened (S140, S190), the previous atmospheric pressure leaning value Pa is retained (S230). When the volumetric efficiency difference ΔKL is larger than the threshold KLref in both cases that the EGR valve is opened and fully closed (S140, S190), the atmospheric pressure learning value Pa is adjusted based on a size relation between the first volumetric efficiency KL1 and the second volumetric efficiency KL2 (S210, S220).
