<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed battery having a safety valve in which variations in an operating pressure are controlled and which releases certainly the internal pressure by a prescribed operation pressure and retains a superior strength for fall and shock, or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The sealed battery is provided with an electrode body unit; an outer package case to house the electrode body unit; and a metallic lid 30 which is installed in an opening part of the case and has a safety valve 40. The safety valve 40, formed in the lid 30, has a cleavage part 42, which fractures when the internal pressure of the battery rises to a prescribed level or more and releases the gas in the case to the outside, and which is formed so that it is thinner than the other portions; and at least the cleavage part 42 of the safety valve 40 is annealed.
