<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new plastic material by using 5-hydroxymethylfurfural obtained as a byproduct from a biomass resource and glycerol as raw materials. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This 5-hydroxymethylfurfurylidene glycerol obtained from the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and glycerol is the diol compound having two polymerizable functional groups in one molecule, and a resin produced by using the above diol compound as a raw material is the plastic material obtained from the biomass resource.
