<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device which can be inexpensively manufactured by simple control. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This device includes a paper cassette 30 for storing paper, and a detection part 32 for detecting a residual quantity of the paper 33 stored in the paper cassette 30 and whether a position of the paper on an uppermost face among the papers 33 stored in the paper cassette 30 reaches a predetermined position or not. The detection part 32 detects the residual quantity of the paper 33 and whether the position of the paper on the uppermost face reaches a predetermined position by one sensor 34 having a light emission part 34a emitting light and a light receiving part 34b receiving the light emitted from the light emission part 34a.
