PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member with which the wear resistance of a slide contact part is easily improved; and to provide a manufacturing method by which such a sliding member is easily manufactured. SOLUTION: The sliding member 21, 22 has slide contact parts 23, 25, 26, 27 sliding while abutting to a part 21 to be contacted. A coating film 40, in which a plurality of coating layers 41, 42, etc., each having interface are laminated, is formed on the surface of respective slide contact parts 23, 25, 26, 27. In the sliding member 21, 22, the coating film 40 is formed to have a plurality of interfaces. Thereby, the abrasion speed is reduced in comparison with a case that each of the coating layers 41, 42, etc., is formed to have a film thickness equal to that of the coating film 40 by itself.
