<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a draw-down chuck capable of preventing the clamp force of a workpiece by gripping claws from being lowered by a balance weight provided on the chuck body. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The balance weight 14 is swingably supported on a shaft member 18 in the internal space 5 of the chuck body 2. The balance weight 14 is joined to a draw bar 10 in such a manner that a force for moving the draw bar 10 forward of the chuck body 2 is canceled by the centrifugal force F1 produced on the gripping claws 11 by the rotation of the chuck body 2.
