<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording layer information detecting device and a recording layer information detecting method which can quickly detect layer information of a recording layer, and to provide a reproducing device, a reproducing method, a recording device, a recording method and a recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Even if an irradiation position of a blue laser beam is deviated to the focus direction during reproduction, any of the recording layer or the like of the optical disk can be irradiated with a blue laser beam and a reference plane can be irradiated with a red laser beam. A specific pattern signal indicated in the (B) is generated from the laser beam reflected by the specific pattern of 9T-9T recording mark or the like of the recording layer or the like, a synchronization signal indicated in the (A) is generated from the laser bean reflected by the synchronization pattern of the reference plane, a phase of the specific pattern signal and a phase of the synchronization signal are detected by a layer information detecting circuit, phase difference (count value) between a phase of the specific pattern signal and a phase of the synchronization signal is detected by a counter circuit, the recording layer information can be detected quickly based on this count value.
