PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphorus recovery material and method which do not require a large apparatus when recovering phosphorus from wastewater or the like, and allow the recovered material to be used as a by-product phosphate fertilizer. SOLUTION: The phosphorus recovery material is used for coagulating sedimentation, and is made of a porous calcium silicate hydrate which is a fine powder having an average particle size (a median diameter) of 150μm or less, and has a pore volume of 0.3 cm<SP>3</SP>/g or more, preferably, the calcium silicate hydrate having an average particle size of 10μm or more and 150μm or less, a bulk density of 0.1 g/cm<SP>3</SP>or more and 0.7 g/cm<SP>3</SP>or less, and a Ca/Si molar ratio of 0.4 or more and 1.5 or less. In the phosphorus recovery method, an acid is added, calcium is eluted by sequential decomposition of the calcium silicate hydrate to generate hydroxyapatite on the surface of the calcium silicate hydrate particles, and the coagulated precipitate is separated to recover phosphorus.
