METHOD OF EXCHANGING KEYS

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set up an encryption key to an apparatus by recognizing that an external server is the apparatus constituting a predetermined local network. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method of exchanging keys comprises the steps of: acquiring by an in-home authentication server a temporary encryption key S2 generated by an in-home device; transmitting an authentication request S3 together with the temporary encryption key S2 and an apparatus identifier S1 to a center authentication server; transmitting by the center authentication server a checking request S4 containing the received temporary encryption key S2 and the received apparatus identifier S1 to the in-home device; transmitting a session key S6 for communication to the in-home authentication server by the center authentication server, when the in-home device confirms that the temporary encryption key S2 contained in the checking request S4 is collated with the generated temporary encryption key S2; and matching the encryption key of the in-home device with the apparatus identifier S1 and memorizing the encryption key and the apparatus identifier S1 in the in-home authentication server.
