<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material separating device which is capable of maintaining the effect of separating a sheet material at a nip exit, even when a state where parallelism between a fixing belt and a separating member is changed is obtained due to the deflection (eccentricity) state of the rotation center of a fixing roller itself on which the fixing belt is stretched, the attachment of the separating member, the accuracy of the attachment to the fixing roller, parallelism deviation between the fixing belt and the separating member caused by thermal deformation in heating, etc. Ž<P>SOLUTION: It is constituted so that the separating member 21 for separating a recording paper P after passing through a nip N from the fixing belt 14 is formed with a required length capable of engaging over the entire width or nearly entire width of the fixing belt 14 and at least, rollers 21e coming into contact with the fixing belt 14 are provided at both ends respectively. The central portion of the separating member 21 is pivotally supported to make the separating member 21 rockable in a longitudinal direction by a pivotally supporting portion 22 supported in such a manner that a supporting shaft m1 provided to project from the device frame m of the fixing device is loosely inserted.
