The chopper has a preheating unit (1), where thermoplastic foil parts (0) are folded continuously in a process flow direction after passing through the preheating unit (1). The foil parts are compacted, transported and transferred finally in a granulate-like form by the chopper. The preheating unit has a threading support (1.4) for partial looping of a preheating roller (1.1) with a foil (0.1). The foil is threaded by temporary swiveling of the threading support including an upper deflecting roller (1.2) in a direction of rotation of the preheating roller.
