<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutware capable of improving wear resistance without degrading defect resistance of a cutting edge. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The cutware such as a drill 1 has a throw-away chip 3, which includes a base body 15 with a surface coated with a coating layer 16 comprising nitride or carbonitride containing Ti and Al and in which crossing ridges of rake surfaces 22 and 28 and flanks 23 and 29 serves as cutting edges 5 and 6. Thickness of the coating layer 16 is 3-10 μm. When ratios I(400)/I(331) of diffraction strength I(400) of a (400) plane for diffraction strength I(331) of a (331) plane for an X-ray diffraction peak of Cu-Kα rays on the rake surfaces 22 and 28 and the flanks 23 and 29 of the coating layer 16 are p<SB>r</SB>and p<SB>f</SB>, respectively, p<SB>r</SB>and p<SB>f</SB>are both 0.15-0.50 and p<SB>f</SB>/p<SB>r</SB>is 0.75-3.0.
