<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an error by the influence of a characteristic change, a change with time, or the like by efficiently adjusting a threshold and cutting down costs in the discrimination of an optical disk. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An optical disk discriminating device has a dummy disk unit and adjusts the threshold by the dummy disk unit. The optical disk discriminating device acquires a measurement value, based on a reflection light signal obtained by applying laser beams to the optical disk, and discriminates the type of the optical disk by comparing the measurement value with the threshold. By adjusting the threshold by utilizing the internal dummy disk unit, efficiency is improved and costs are cut down, thus reducing an error by the influence of a characteristic change, a change with time, or the like.
